LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – People from all around the nation have come together to celebrate the very influential and popular fictional video game character Mario, for the annual “Mario Day,” celebration held today on March 10.
The character made his debut in the 1981 Nintendo classic Donkey Kong and with a couple of games to follow Mario’s rise to video game stardom came the 1985 release of Super Mario Brothers for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Since then the rest is history as Nintendo’s title character and mascot has appeared in several games, spin-offs, variants, collaborations, and more entertaining children for over 40 years!
Sean Mcgugin, a Mario fan, says the games played a vital part in his childhood.
“I grew up playing the games, even now, I enjoy them as an adult and, like my kids, a couple of my kids like playing them.”
“It’s a really fun game. It’s got some easy aspects, it’s not too hard, but it does still give you a challenge.”
You can make sure to participate by picking up the controller and taking down some Goombas.
