Thanks to the affordable price tag, Meta’s popularity among AR/VR headsets has skyrocketed, especially after the introduction of Apple Vision Pro. As Meta gears up for its biggest event of the year — Meta Connect 2024, the social media conglomerate is expected to introduce a slew of new hardware products, especially in the AR/VR framework.

Remember Snap AR Spectacles that Snapchat recently unveiled? We might get to see a similar pair of wearables from Meta. According to leaks, these AR glasses are internally known as Orion AR glasses and are expected to deliver a seamless augmented reality experience, and they are also likely to be a standalone device. Meta recently announced its continued long-term partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the company behind the famous eyewear brand Rayban, and the upcoming Orion AR glasses from Meta are expected to be made by Luxottica.
As far as features/capabilities are concerned, Meta’s Orion AR glasses are likely to function similarly to a Meta Quest and are likely to include a holographic-style display for each eye. They will be much easier to wear and use, especially outdoors. They are also expected to include cameras and microphones along with built-in AI features.
In a recent Threads post, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg almost confirmed the launch of the company’s first AR glasses, which are expected to be unveiled at the upcoming Meta Connect 2024 event. However, with all these technical advancements, the Meta Orion AR glasses are likely to be on the expensive side.
A cheaper VR headset
$299 Quest 3S 128GB Confirmed by Amazon Ad on Peacockbyu/Vast_Front259 inOculusQuest
The Meta Quest 3, in comparison with the Apple Vision Pro, is already a cheaper VR headset. However, with its $499.99 price tag, it’s still on the expensive side. Meta is said to be working on a cheaper version of the same, and it is likely to be called the Quest 3S, which might carry a price tag of around $300 and could replace the Quest 2, which was launched back in 2020.
Despite the lower price, the Quest 3S is likely to deliver a similar user experience, except the build and hardware might not be as capable as the Quest 3, which is likely to remain as Meta’s mainstream consumer-grade VR headset. According to a leaked ad, the Quest 3S might come with 128 GB of internal storage.
New and improved Meta-Rayban glasses
Another product that Meta might showcase at the Connect 2024 event is the new and improved Meta-Rayban smart glasses, possibly with a new design, better battery life, and improved audio performance along with new AI features, which could also be made available in more markets after the event.
