While things have been rough for the franchise in past years, Silent Hill F might be the turning point the series desperately needed. There has been a lot of turmoil in the franchise, and the series felt like it wasn’t delivering on a lot of promises. However, with the newest entry revealed and the remake performing well, the series might have finally gotten something the fans can be excited about.
Silent Hill F was announced three years ago, and it was a long time before we got this transmission to get a trailer and more details on the story and what direction they decided to go for this one. While there have been recent spin-offs in the series, there hasn’t been a main entry in the series since 2012 with Downpour, which was not as well received as some of the older entries. With luck, this one will change things.
The Franchise’s Luck Ran Out
Downpour’s release was plagued by technical issues, which were later resolved but did not change the ratings of the game at launch. The HD Collection came out around the same time, and it included similar technical issues and was less well-received than the original games. Both of these had unfortunate beginnings, which made it hard for the series to continue at the time.

If Bloober Team Is Making A New Silent Hill, There’s One Opportunity It Can’t Miss
Bloober Team is continuing to work with Konami after its success with Silent Hill 2, and has a great opportunity to shape the future of the series.
We did get a few spin-off games, but neither The Short Messagenor Ascension were well-received. There was a group of adaptations in Japan, known as Pachislot, Return, and Escape, which were all adaptations of the mainline games for Japan alone. These were all released as slot machines, and the first one was released shortly after an event in the series’ history that many found devastating and thought would be the end of the series as a whole.
Many Thought Silent Hills’ Cancelation Killed The Series
The Event That Fans Thought Ended The Series For Good
The event in question came not long after the playable teaser for Silent Hills, better known as P.T. now, was released in 2014 before being suddenly pulled from the PlayStation stores in 2015. It came with an announcement that the game was officially canceled and that Kojima had separated from Konami. This came as devastating news to fans, as the hype that P.T. created has been nearly unmatched since.
Afterward, Konami stated that they would be working on new Silent Hill titles, as opposed to proceeding with Silent Hills without Kojima. However, nothing new came out for a very long time, beyond the slot machines that remained exclusively in Japan. It has left fans without much to go on, and it appeared that the Silent Hill franchise might be officially over.
Silent Hill 2 Remake & Silent Hill F Are A Turning Point For Fans
A New Beginning For An Old Franchise
That is until the Silent Hill 2 Remake was released last year. The Remake finally gave fans an updated edition of something that felt like Silent Hill for the first time in a long time. The game at times even felt more terrifying than the first version did, perhaps due to the more realistic graphics. The Remake felt like a very thoughtful one, and it successfully recreated the world that James gets lost in.
However, that is not the only good news to come out. Though it’s been a long time since we first heard of Silent Hill F, we finally got a trailer along with a lot of details from the official transmission from the Silent Hill developers. And it looks really good, even if it is not taking place in the titular Silent Hill town. Instead, we are getting a fully Japanese game that is taking hints from traditional Japanese horror. You should think of things like Fatal Frame with a hefty dose of Silent Hill added in.

Now the series is going back to Japan, and it looks quite promising.
While we haven’t seen a lot of the monsters just yet, the town looks just as eerie. The developers stated that they wanted the game to feel like Silent Hill while remaining Japanese. Silent Hill F has a promising premise, one that might bring a lot of new fans to the series, and one that older fans have been waiting for for a long time.
