I WANTED TO SPOTLIGHT THAT NOT ONLY ARE LATINOS WITH EXIST WITHIN THE VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY, BUT WE’RE WORKING ON SOME OF THE BIGGEST GAMES WHERE SOME OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL AND POWERFUL PEOPLE WITHIN INDUSTRY. “A lot of Latino creativity, blood, sweat and tears is woven into the video game history timeline,” executive director and co-founder of Latinx Games Festival Jason Vega said. The Latinx Games Festival highlights the top contributors in the video game industry. It is a chance for people to enjoy the medium and appreciate the history Latino and Hispanic developers have contributed over the years. “When I formed the Latinx Games Festival, I wanted to highlight those stories,” Vega said. “I wanted to spotlight that not only do Latinos exist within the video game industry, but we’re working on some of the biggest games, we’re also some of the most influential and powerful people in the industry.”This is the first time the game festival is being spotlighted in Albuquerque. It’s part of a three-day event happening at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. It’s a move Vega says is a dream come true, especially during Hispanic Heritage Month.Vega said, “Some of the biggest games you may not know are developed by Latinos or have heavy Latino influence.”Popular games like Doom and Mortal Kombat are household names within the industry, which also has Latino influence.
