Apple is gearing up to launch its new iPad Air models soon with its upgraded M4 chip, which is speculated to replace the M2 chips in the current models. We have previously reported that stock of the M2 iPad Air models is dwindling in Apple Stores around the world, which is an indication that the company is planning to launch the M4 variants soon. It is now being reported that the new models will be launched soon, a few days later than the M4 MacBook Air upgrade.
Prominent industry analyst Mark Gurman claims in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple plans to launch the M4 MacBook Air models as soon as this week, but the M4 iPad Air and iPad 11 “probably won’t come in the next few days.” This means that Apple could be looking to announce the M4 MacBook Air alone, similar to the iPhone 16e. Additionally, we believe that Apple will announce the new machine via a press release rather than a full-fledged event.

Mark Gurman also states that the iPad Air and iPad 10 inventory is running low, which hints that the new products are right around the corner. However, Apple will give the M4 MacBook Air attention before it sees fit to upgrade its iPad lineup. The company adopted a similar approach with the iPhone 16e, as it has been almost two weeks since the device was announced, and it has received its due attention.
While the analyst did not share an exact launch timeframe for the M4 iPad Air and iPad 11, we can safely presume that the new models will be introduced later in March or April. As for what we are expecting, the iPad Air will feature the same design as the current models, but it will skip the M3 chip upgrade and jump straight to the M4 chip, similar to what the company did with the OLED iPad Pro. The new chip will bring enhanced performance to the iPad Air lineup, but it could be a binned chip, as Apple loves to reserve high-performing chips for its premium models. However, it remains to be seen if there will be any performance differences between different models.
The iPad 11 is expected to feature the same design as well, but to keep its price at bay, the company will not offer Apple Intelligence with it, which means that the tablet will not feature the A17 Pro chip. It is also unclear if Apple will incorporate its custom 5G C1 modem in the tablets. We will keep you posted with more details on the new models, so be sure to stick around.
