BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – Last week, the Senate Gaming Committee didn’t take up a mobile sports betting bill passed earlier in the House, but House Gaming Chairman Casey Eure isn’t giving up on the idea.
“This is just another tool for the casinos to have to make more revenue and for the state to capture those tax dollars,” Eure said.
To keep the proposal alive, Eure inserted language to legalize online sports betting into two Senate bills.
State Representative and member of the Gaming Committee Zachary Grady from D’Iberville joined WLOX News this Week to share his insight into the push to legalize mobile sports betting in the state.
“We’re losing millions of dollars a year in tax revenue to offshore sites that are taking mobile sports betting every day from Mississippians,” Grady said. “It’s important for our gaming market to stay competitive. Louisiana has mobile sports betting; Alabama is talking about it. If we let everybody around us have it and we don’t, we lose a competitive advantage.”
