No one seems to know exactly what Nintendo is waiting for a this point, only mentioning the Switch 2 when they have a new game showcase to clarify they will “not be releasing any information about the Nintendo Switch successor.”

But everyone else? They’re less patient, and at this point, almost everything about the Nintendo Switch 2, from functionality to appearance, has been leaked at this point. Except for what its official name will be.

This morning, a new GameStop listing shows that the Switch 2 will support MicroSD cards, and those listed range from 256 GB to 512 GB for more game storage.
Reports from a week or so ago put the power of the Switch 2 at possibly PS4 Pro level when docked, and base PS4 level when in handheld mode.
Digital Foundry did an entire segment on the leak of the Switch 2 motherboard.
Genki is already showing off accessories for the Switch 2 using what is apparently a mockup of the actual console.

There’s more, but you get the idea. The Nintendo Switch 2 has leaked from top to bottom, and while not all information is confirmed, the general sense is that this is…a more powerful Nintendo Switch that looks almost identical to the last one.

It’s a huge departure for Nintendo in the sense that it never does this with its form factors. The differences between the NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii and Switch are massive. The only exception is the somewhat confusing nature of the Wii U, which was more or less a Wii with a Gamepad, and that helped lead to disastrous sales.

It remains to be seen if the general public will get the message this time around. Even with Xbox and PlayStation generations, the form factors are much different, and with Nintendo’s odd naming proclivities, if they end up naming this the New Nintendo Switch Plus or something, if it looks identical to the old one, many outside of the core gaming sphere may just think it’s a sort of upgrade like the OLED model, rather than an entire new console generation.

The most likely option, of course, is that whatever initial confusion there could be, the Switch 2 will ultimately be a massive seller like the first. The original Switch is now the third best-selling piece of video game hardware of all time with 146 million units sold, behind only its own DS and then the PS2. 100 million is likely an easy mark to hit. But will it surpass the original? That remains to be seen. But at this point, Nintendo should just…reveal it, barring even more leaks that are coming out practically every week.
