NVIDIA claims to have shipped a lot more RTX 50 series cards than RTX 40. However, it failed to provide us with the numbers.

NVIDIA Says Better Availability and Pricing Ahead and Shares a ‘Vague’ Graph, Comparing RTX 50 and RTX 40 Series Shipments

Since the launch of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series Blackwell GPUs, many have called it a ‘paper’ launch, since customers were hardly able to secure one for themselves, even at higher prices than MSRP. To this day, most RTX 50 series GPUs aren’t available at major retailers and whenever the stock arrives, there are no more than a few units available, which quickly sell in minutes or seven seconds.

However, NVIDIA’s statement is quite the opposite of what we have seen in recent weeks. As per the report, NVIDIA claims to have shipped ‘twice’ the number of RTX 50 series GPUs than RTX 40 series in the same period after launch. In approximately five weeks, the graph shows the RTX 50 series to be way above the RTX 40 series shipments, and it looks kinda similar to the RTX 5090 vs RTX 4090 performance graph, which NVIDIA initially showcased at CES.

Nonetheless, there are no numbers, which is why this graph is vague and doesn’t prove the point. Many retailers instead confirmed that the next stock of RTX 50 series GPUs will arrive after several weeks and even the biggest retailers around the world didn’t have more than a few dozen units of RTX 5090, while the RTX 5080 did have somewhat better availability.

The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 saw a similar story but, as per NVIDIA, it has shipped more of these cards than the RTX 40 series. One point to note here is that while NVIDIA launched four RTX 50 series GPUs within five weeks, it only released the RTX 4080 a month later after launching the GeForce RTX 4090. So, we are technically seeing RTX 4090 shipments vs RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti.

NVIDIA’s Justin Walker says that availability will increase in the coming weeks and prices will stabilize as well. As per the report by TweakTown, NVIDIA has ‘ramped’ up the shipments already, and they are working ‘overtime’ to ensure better supply in the market.

We are working closely with not just our AIB partners but also our retail partners to make sure that the supply is available at MSRP,

In the end, the best way to do that is is get more supply onto a shelf. As soon as the supply catches up to demand, we expect prices to stabilize.

Justin Walker, NVIDIA

We did see the RTX 5070 taking the number one spot on Amazon, but the availability isn’t as good as you would assume. It is going to take a couple of more weeks to see the prices drop close to MSRP, but things are somewhat better than at the launch time.
