The students have also been provided kits for experimentation with IoT.
Pravina Kerkar, principal of Govt College, Quepem, said the workshop was for SC and ST students from the computer science, electronics, physics and IT departments with a fundamental understanding of IoT technology. The aim was to push their knowledge from the basics of IoT systems, protocols and implementation to hands-on application, she said.
The training in IoT technology was provided by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bengaluru, in a collaboration with the directorate of higher education and Govt College, Quepem.
The five-day workshop received participation from 81 students from across Goa.
IoT kits from C-DAC were given to each participant to encourage them to be involved in IoT-based experimentation and to facilitate them to find end-to-end solutions to societal problems, said Kavita Asnani, workshop coordinator from the directorate of higher education.
“This initiative is a strong step toward democratising access to technology and ensuring that every student, irrespective of background, gets an equal opportunity to experiment, create, and innovate,” said S D Sudarsan, executive director, C-DAC.
Faculty members were also trained in IoT technologies and applications so that they are available to guide students in their projects and research endeavours.
