TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G smartphone and NXTPAPER 11 Plus tablet to be available in North America.

Mobile World Congress 2025 is officially underway, which means we will see a barrage of new smartphone announcements this week. One of the first ones is also one of the most practical — the TCL 60 series.

While MWC is an important event, not all smartphones present at the show see the light of day. Quite a few of them are concepts or products with limited availability. TCL Mobile’s event at the show saw the global release of new products with its iconic NXTPAPER display tech.

Review: The TCL 50 XE NXTPAPER 5G brings the best of E Ink to a budget phone

Do you want a phone that doubles as an e-reader?

NXTPAPER is a proprietary feature developed by TCL that makes screens mimic the look and feel of paper. TCL’s 2025 lineup uses NXTPAPER 4.0, which reduces eye-strain and improves the viewing experience with lowered reflections and glare, blue-light filtration, and high color accuracy (ΔE<1, 100% sRGB coverage).

Originally introduced in January at the Consumer Electronics Show, the TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G smartphone and the TCL NXTPAPER 11 Plus tablet — both of which will be available in North America — are joined by six new (and confusingly-named) smartphones. Two of them even feature the new display tech, but they are destined only for other markets.

The TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G will be available in Canada for CA$325 starting May and in the US for $200 later in the year. It comes with the NXTPAPER button that instantly switches to the e-ink mode, offering up to seven days of battery life. The screen spans 6.8-inches and has a 120Hz refresh rate. The operating system will remind users to take breaks or change modes. It has a 50MP triple-camera, a 5,010 mAh battery and 256GB storage — not bad for a budget smartphone.

The TCL NXTPAPER 11 Plus tablet will be available globally for €250. North American availability was confirmed but pricing was not. It brings the same display tech to an 11.5-inch 120Hz 2.2K canvas. While only 6.5mm thick and 490g heavy, it has an 8,000mAh battery, 33W fast charging and 256GB storage.

The six new smartphones that TCL announced at MWC are:

TCL 60 NXTPAPER: €200; available in Latin America and Asia Pacific

TCL 60 SE NXTPAPER 5G: €190; available in Asia Pacific, Europe, and Latin America.

TCL 60 5G: €170; available in Europe, Asia-Pacific.

TCL 60 SE: €170; available in Asia Pacific, Europe, MEA, Latin America.

TCL 60R 5G: €120; available in Asia Pacific, Europe, and Latin America.

TCL 605: €110; available in Asia Pacific, Europe, MEA, Latin America.

The TCL 60 series brings some much-needed competition to the North American budget smartphone market, competing with the likes of Motorola, Samsung, and Nothing.
